Roasting Chestnuts at your fireplace or the oven – THE SECRET

The question is “how to get your chestnuts not get stuck to their shell after roasting”.

Well this is how:

A day before, rinse the chestnuts and lay them flat on your cutting board. With a serrated knife, make a lengthwise slit down the entire middle surface, on the long side. Do the same thing at the back. Be careful to cut only the shell, and not the skin of the chestnuts. Place the chestnuts in a bowl full of water and let them rest for 24h.

The next day use a roasting pan or a chestnut roaster or an aluminum foil, and place them in the oven or over an open fire.

Roast until the shells begin to split open and the insides feel soft.

We enjoy them with a glass of our favorite Merlot wine…..well after the kids go to sleep.
