The Kid-Friendly Greek Tzatziki

“Tzatziki” is the most famous Greek sauce. Served with any meats, kebabs, souvlaki, or as a dip for vegetables and bread sticks, this yogurt based dip is also a very healthy choice to accompany your kids meals. The traditional recipe consists of yogurt, cucumber, garlic, dill, vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper. The proportion of each ingredient is what makes this dip kid-friendly or not. Here is my proposal for a “tzatziki” your kids will love.

Ready in: 10 minutes

Portion: 4-6

How to make kid-friendly greek tzatziki

Ingredients

400g (14 oz) Greek yogurt (strained)

1 cucumber (grated)

2 garlic cloves, finely minced

1 tablespoon white wine vinegar

1 tablespoon dill, finely chopped (optional)

5 tablespoons olive oil

a pinch of salt

How to do it

  1. Peel the cucumber and grate with a cheese grater, using the large blades.

  2. Put in a bowl. Add a pinch of salt and 1 tablespoon of white wine vinegar. Toss and set aside to release its liquid.

  3. In the meantime, combine the rest of ingredients. Mix with a tablespoon.

  4. Then squeeze the cucumber with your hands to release any remaining liquid, and add the cucumber to the yogurt mixture.

  5. Stir and adjust the salt according to taste.

  6. Refrigerate until needed.
